Today, on the last day of September, the official 2023/2024 season started in the capital of Latvia, Riga, which has been the real second home for Prometey for the second straight year. Our team is entering the new season as the current champion of the Latvian-Estonian basketball league. “Titans” started defending their title with a duel against not the strongest rival – Estonian Viimsi.
However, Ukrainian fans remember Viimsi as a club that last season created a lot of unpleasant minutes for Prometey in the playoffs. In the debut of today’s sparring, the opponent, which unlike the last season did not have high-quality American legionnaires in the roster, set up worthy resistance - a tie 7:7 after five minutes of the game and 11:11 after eight minutes. In the starting segment, both teams had low accuracy percentage of shots from the game and from the perimeter. In our team’s roster at that point, Ronald March deserved all the best words for his super-posts, as he is just on his way to finding rapport with his teammates.
Prometey took the first quarter (18:14) and created a 9:0 run in the debut of the second one. From that moment on, “Red-and-white” set up a complete dominating on the floor. Already in 18 minute, after Davon Reed aced a three-pointer, the advantage of our team was over two dozens of points. At the same time, it would be wrong to say that “titans’” offensive actions were perfect – there was a great potential in this component. But the opponent was helpless against our aggressive defence, scoring only 7 points during the entire quarter.
“Titans” also had no problems in the second half of the game. Our team broke away from the opponent even further after “+28” according to results of the first 20 minutes. Additionally, in the third quarter, “titans” had a great percentage accuracy of three-point shots (40).
In the middle of the final ten-minute segment, all 12 players, who appeared on the court, had some scored points in their assets. All together, in the penultimate minute of the match, they comprised a grandmasters’ benchmark of 100 points. The final score of 106:61 was an eloquent proof of Prometey supremacy.
On Wednesday, our team awaits much more demanding test. Within BKT EuroCup, it will host at “Arena Riga” the team “Hamburg Towers” from Germany.
