“Prometey” continues familiarising with two new tournaments for our team – the Latvian-Estonian league and the 7DAYS EuroCup. Today’s match in LEBL against the reigning Estonian champion “Parnu Sadam” was number 5, and in the previous four confrontations of the league, out team played with the teams of absolutely different levels. There is no risk of mistake in considering the next opponent of the Ronen Ginzburg’s team the elite of the LEBL, because, following the results of the previous season, they became the best team of their country.
The duel in Parnu was expected to be difficult for “red and white” and it was proven with the course of the match, as the issue of the winner remained opened until the very end of the game. The guests reached a starting advantage of 5:0 thanks to the accurate three-pointer by Denys Lukashov and effective actions by DJ Kennedy. However, the first spurt of our team did not upset “Parnu Sadam”. Considerably conceding to our team under the boards (5 rebounds against 15 in the first quarter), the hosts of the court relied a lot on attacks from the arc and succeeded in this game component. In the starting 10-minute segment, Estonians had a magnificent percentage of accuracy in three point shots – 60. Due to this, they did not let “red and white” far ahead for a long time. Nevertheless, our team finished the first quarter with the comfortable advantage of 11 points.
During the first five minute, our team acted awry in offense, scoring only 2 points. At the same time, the rival successfully attacked our rim from a long-range distance. Initially, Robert Valge made it twice; moreover, his first shot was over the hands of Issuf Sanon. Then, when in 17th minute, David Geks brought 3 points to his team, the gap became only 2 points for “Parnu”(26:28). With a jerk of 5:0, the guests pushed the opponent a little away; and the, even won the quarter, although “Parnu” seemed to do that. The last minute before the long break, was excellent for Ronen Ginzburg wards: powerful and productive play of Ondrej Balvin in the opponent’s paint (16 points and 20 rebounds (!) in a match), “and-one” by DJ Kennedy and one accurate free throw by DJ Stephense recodered “+11” for “Prometey”.
After 15-minute break, our team reached their largest advantage in the match -18 points. At this moment Toomas Aanuk’s team showed themselves up from the best side. They started using successfully on of their trumps – the effective attacks from the perimeter. Due to the accurate three-point shots, the host team “stayed in the game”, then Ukrainian big man Serhii Pavlov showed real leadership qualities. He acted perfectly in our 3-second zone, reducing the gap to one possession.
The Estonian club confidently won the third quarter, having quite a good chance to succeed in entire match. However, “Parnu Sadam” could not take a lead in the match even once. One of the decisive moments of the confrontation was a segment on the 38th minute, when with “+3” in favour of “Prometey”, Illia Sydorov and DJ Stephens arranged a magic alley-oop; and then, Issuf Sanon pulled the trigger from a long-range distance. Latvian guard of “Parnu”, with his three-pointer the minute before the final siren, gave a chance to his team, however an effective individual pass by Illia Sydorov 24 seconds before the end of the match, determined its result in favour of the quests.
“Prometey” won 77:71, and already this Wednesday will hold a home match of the 7DAYS EuroCup with one of the leaders of our group Turkish “Bursaspor”.
