Today, on December 13, “Prometey” opened the programme of the home matches of the EuroCup group stage second tour, hosting at Arena Riga “Besiktas” Turkey. Ronen Ginzburg’s squad managed to grab the win with a score of 89:70.
From the first minutes, “Prometey” tried to play its basketball and break away from the rival, however the teams were constantly exchanging spurts all along the first half of the match. The “titans” won the first ten-minute segment, the visitors from Turkey – the second one, which has led to a slight advantage of the “red-and-white” before the long break (45:40).
But in the second half, Ronen Ginzburg’s team managed to accomplish a desired result. The removal of “Besiktas” head coach Dusan Alimpijevic facilitated that. Unil the end of the match, the team was led by Ukrainian specialist Dmytro Boldaiev. As a result, visiting team was able to score just 10 points, which allowed “Prometey” to set a comfortable score difference and, already in the fourth quarter, calmly finish the match bringing it to a confident win.
The centers of “Prometey” Tai Odiase with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Ondrej Balvin with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists were named the best players of this match.
For “Prometey”, this victory is the sixth one in 11 EuroCup rounds and the third home win in a row.
Already this Saturday, on December 16, “Prometey” is playing a match of the Latvian-Estonian league against BC “Tallinn Kalev”. The next EuroCup match will be a road one for the “titans” – on December 20, Ukrainian team is playing against “London Lions”.
