In another match of the Latvian-Estonian league, “Prometey ” hosted at Arena Riga the ambitious“ Ventspils, which, without any exaggeration, do call now one of the best clubs in Latvia.
The rival of “Prometey” proved its status for the second time in the season namely in the confrontation with the current league champion. The guests looked quite convincing in the debut of the match - 10:6 in their favour already in the 5th minute and 22:14 - based on the results of the first quarter. Players of the Latvian club hit 4 three-point shots out of 11 in this quarter, but Ronen Ginzburg's players missed three times.
In the debut of the second quarter, the game mechanism of the "titans" worked at full: a 17:3 jerk in three and a half minutes (Illia Sydorov stood out with two long-range hits). To the credit of "Ventspils", the team showed that it knows how to stay strong and several times regained, although temporarily, the advantage in the score after the long break.
The competitive confrontation was going on. The teams entered the last three-minute segment of the match with a tie of 75:75. The opponents were roughly equal in shooting and the number of rebounds. And yet the high class of "Prometey" was clearly visible in the clutch. In the crucial moments, the visitors could not find optimal decisions in offence and instead made some bad ones in defence. As for our team’s players, they calmly used every their chance.
As a result, the “titans”, with a score of 86:77, gained the 19th win in the league. On February 14, they are playing a road match against “Ogre”.
