Ronen Ginzburg: "We have to correct a lot of things, but a victory is a victory"

Ронен Гінзбург: "Нам потрібно виправити багато проблем, але перемога є перемога"

The head coach of BC “Prometey” Ronen Ginzburg after the victory over the finalist of the EuroCup-2022 “Bursaspor”:

-We played against very good team, with great experience and a good coach. I am glad that players put in so much effort. Of course, we made mistakes. We started not very well, but managed to be back to the game, so I can be satisfied. We have to correct a lot of things, but a victory is a victory, and against such a team, this is a good victory.

-It seemed, when you ran, you gained easy points, but when you slowed down, you lost balls and somewhat were out of game. How could you explain that?

-Sometimes, we did not use our big guys, so we could not play our game. Undeniably, a speed game is our strength, but I think, today we played a lot of isolations, trying to find weaknesses of our rival’s team. For example, some players were on fouls, so we tried to use that. That is why I think our today’s attack was not just a break out game. It was something more.

-You kept your best scorer Gian Clavell on the bench at the start of the second half. Why did you make this decision?

-I am still exploring the team. Moreover, Clavell played 18 minutes in the first half. I thought like if I give him 10 more minutes in the third quarter, we will lose today at the end of the game. As a result, it was good that he was back exactly at that moment and played well in the end. If he spent 35-38 minutes on the court, it would be problematic.

-One of the leaders of the match, Issuf Sanon, spent a lot of time on the bench. What can you say about him?

-Issuf is a great talent. However, he must correct those silli mistakes that he does in both defense and attack and move things in his head to the correct positions. He will be a very good player. I hope, he will continue moving in this direction. “You have to be consistent” – I always say to them.

-DJ Stephens left the game for a short while due to injury. How is he now?

-Yeah, he even managed to return to the match. He strives to win games. He insisted: ”Coach, I am ready!” I am very pleased to see how players rush to the court. You know, this is such a sort of damage, that we can be certain only tomorrow, how serious his injury is.
